What is permanent make-up?

You may have heard of permanent make-up (pmu), semi permanent make-up (spmu), micro-blading, micro-pigmentation….

What are they and what’s the difference?

There are several different methods of PMU. The main difference is the tool used by the Artist.

“Microblading” is achieved with a handheld manual blade. Many people think that hairstrokes can only be achieved through Microblading. This is untrue. Beautiful hairstrokes can be achieved with Micro-pigmentation.

“Micropigmentation” is PMU using a digital machine, which is more versatile and creates less trauma to the skin, than a blade used for Microblading.

Here at New Confidence, we carry out micropigmentation, using a digital tool, using tattooing techniques.

However, PMU is not as permanent as a traditional tattoo.

PMU pigment is not implanted as deeply into the skin as a traditional tattoo. It fades gently over the course of a couple of years depending on a number of factors, hence also known as semi-permanent make-up.

It’s the smallest details that make the biggest difference!

Hi I’m Kerry, and this is New Confidence PMU

My journey into the world of Cosmetic Tattooing / permanent make-up (PMU) began in early 2023, the year I turned 50. After experiencing the transformative power of PMU Hairstroke Eyebrows, I discovered the significant impact that well-shaped brows could have on my confidence. Struggling with bald patches and years of overzealous plucking, I had never realized how much my eyebrows affected my self-image until I saw the results.

This newfound confidence ignited a fascination with PMU, which prompted me to explore training opportunities. A pivotal moment came when I attended a training session as an observer; I left that day inspired and promptly booked my own PMU Eyebrows training course. Since then, I’ve expanded my skills with certifications in Scalp and Facial Micro-pigmentation, Men’s Hairstroke Eyebrow Patterns, and Lip Blush.

I draw on nearly 30 years of experience in Financial Services, where attention to detail, accuracy, and client communication were paramount. These skills are invaluable in my PMU practice, allowing me to focus on creating beautiful, lasting transformations without the frustrations of shifting project timelines.

I thrive on seeing the joy and excitement on my clients’ faces when they first glimpse their new look. It’s a rewarding experience that fuels my passion for this art form. Outside of PMU, I enjoy hiking, skiing, and staying active at the gym, always seeking the next adventure or music event attend.

My training has been shaped by leading Permanent Make‑Up and SMP artists across the UK, and every qualification reflects my commitment to delivering work that is personal, precise, and confidence‑building. I began my journey training in Eyebrows then Lips with Jade Jefford, expanding into Level 4 Scalp and Facial Micropigmentation at Luxe SMP Academy, which deepened my ability to support clients in transformative ways.

I’ve continued to invest in advanced education, completing specialist courses with Alice Kingdom in Male Eyebrow Patterns and Li‑FT Tattoo and PMU Removal.  Refining my artistry through masterclasses with Lara Phillips in Melanin Rich Lips, The Science behind Cosmetic Tattooing, and Eyeliner. My passion for restorative work also led me to train in MCA Scar Restoration with Vikki Clarke, allowing me to help clients on their healing journeys with care and sensitivity.

Continuous development isn’t just part of my business; it’s part of who I am. Every course, every qualification, and every mentor has shaped the artist I am today, and I bring that dedication into every treatment I perform.
